That meant that by using the term “pest control” as a keyword instead of “exterminator service” my client ultimately would get better results because the people searching for the second term would see him in the first page while the people searching the first term would never see him at all since he’d be buried by the competition
Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) This is actually related to keyword search, but it’s a more sophisticated method of getting your page listed in the rankings. In essence, when Google and other web sites look for your site, they don’t just hunt down one keyword.
They also look for synonyms to your keyword in order to learn more about what you are trying to tell people with your site. By including synonyms (that’s a simpler way of saying LSI), you will improve your rankings because Google and other search engines will consider your writing to be more “natural” and flowing.
Link backs. Just like when you were in school, Google bases where to place you on their rankings by how popular you are. Popularity is measured by how many people link to you.
That means that you need to improve your links in order to get better search engine rankings. There are several ways to do this, but one of the easiest (though it is time consuming) is to spend time reading blogs that relate to your subject area and then leaving behind a valuable comment and a link to your site (simply putting in comments like “nice site” or even just a generic comment which doesn’t discuss anything about what the site is about is not going to get you the links you need since blog owners are likely to delete your comment as spam).
